Strengthening Wage Transparency and Worker Awareness
The Challenge
Many women workers were unaware of their legal rights under the Maternity Benefit Act, including entitlement to maternity leave, wage protection during the leave period, and the obligations of employers. Limited awareness often resulted in underutilization of benefits and inconsistent implementation at the workplace.
CRE's Approach
CRE conducted worker awareness sessions covering minimum wages, ESI and Provident Fund deductions, take-home wage calculations, overtime computation, wage advances, loan deductions, and interpretation of wage slips. Interactive exercises and mock wage-slip reviews were used to help workers identify calculation errors and understand corrective actions. To sustain the initiative, CRE facilitated the development of a wage policy and implementation SOP.
The Outcome
Workers gained a clearer understanding of their wages, deductions, benefits, and entitlements. The initiative improved transparency, strengthened trust between workers and management, enhanced confidence in payroll processes, and established a structured system for addressing wage-related queries and concerns.
Impact: Increased wage literacy among workers, strengthened compliance with wage legislation, improved payroll transparency, and fostered greater trust and engagement between employees and management.
